Andrea Patten
Background information for Andrea Patten
Andrea lives in the White Mountains of Northern New Hampshire and is a licensed addictions counselor who has worked in substance abuse treatment, child protection and domestic violence settings. Her work as a family advocate has exposed her to a wide variety of families and problems.
In 2004, she partnered with her father, Henry S. Patten, to write What Kids Need to Succeed: Four Foundations of Adult Achievement. This book lays the foundation through inspiring stories that help parents think about ways to prepare their own children for a bright future and become successful adults.
“What Kids Need to Succeed was a tremendous growth opportunity for me. It took me out of a familiar role and let me try to reach families in an entirely new manner. My favorite part of direct service work was always helping people to identify and connect with the well of optimism and strength inside of them. I think that this book can provide hope to any family, regardless of their circumstances.”
The book has been endorsed by notables such as Mark Victor Hansen (Chicken Soup for the Soul, The One Minute Millionaire and Cracking the Millionaire Code), Brian Tracy (How to Raise Happy, Self-Confident Children), Dr. Margaret Raymond (Director, CREDO, Hoover Institution, Stanford University) and David Chernow (Past President and CEO, Junior Achievement Worldwide).
Andrea has also developed a blog for parents who are interested in providing their children with the skills they
need in order to become independent, self-sufficient and successful adults. Her approach has been called the perfect balance between ‘no nonsense’ and ‘unwavering optimism’ – a balance that she shares not only through her writing, but also in talks, workshops and organizational consults around the country.
