Parenting Differences:
What are you struggling with, today, in your blended family? The most frequent issue I hear is parenting issues. The couple falls in love, decides to marry, and sometime after moving in together, realizes that their parenting styles are very different. How can we make this work?
It's important to decide what issues are really important to you and what issues you can live without. Discuss with your spouse and decide what ground rules you two will establish for everyone in your house, and make sure you both enforce them. Be united and in agreement in front of the kids. It's O.K. to say, "We'll think about it and let you know" if you have an issue you and your spouse are not yet in agreement. Make time, alone, each day (even if it's just 30 minutes) and extended time at least twice a month, to discuss these issues privately. Remember that you and your spouse are the center of the marriage and the key to making this all work.
