What's the difference in coaching and counseling? The best example I can think of is an adult playing softball, a Saturday afternoon, with the company softball team. He/She strikes out, repeatedly, and basically has a terrible experience that day. Counseling would talk with this person about the experience: "How did striking out feel?" " What memories of your childhood did it bring to mind?" Although these are great questions, and I highly value counseling, this is not what we do at The Blended and Step Family Resource Center. We do coaching. Coaching is more direct and solution oriented: "Hold your head down a bit, and look at the ball; raise your elbow as you hold the bat...." Do you see the difference? Both are great, but blended and step families need help now, and we're here to direct and guide you, to be your coach, with our proven experience and knowledge, to successfully guide your blended family. How often do we come to coaching? Weekly sessions are ideal to make the fastest progress and see results. Do you except insurance? Why not? We do not accept insurance because The Blended and Step Family Resource Center does not like to label folks using the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.) When you go to a counselor, therapist or social worker- and receive counseling that is covered by insurance, they are required to "code" you with one of these diagnoses. We don't believe that blending a family is a mental illness. I know you feel crazy at times- but, it's not a mental illness! Our process is faster than counseling, and all of our coaches are licensed therapists, are experienced in blended families, and trained on how to coach- so you'll save time and money when you come to see us. What forms of payment do you accept? We accept Mastercard, Visa, Discover, American Express, and Paypal. Our payment processor is Paypal, so all payments, including credit cards, go through PayPal to process the payment. Your payment is secure and encrypted. When do I pay for a session? All sessions are confirmed once you prepay, on the website.
Is there a no-show or cancellation fee? Yes, if you no-show or cancel the appointment less than one business day before the appointment, you will be charged a $20 cancellation fee. You will need to pay the cancellation fee before your next session can be scheduled. If your cancellation is due to a true family emergency, this fee can be waived by the coach (at the coach's descretion.)
Can my kids attend a coaching session? The coaching sessions are designed for the parents- to give parents the guidance and direction needed to have a successful blended family. If the parents are interested in having the kids come for a session, or have a family session- this can be arranged.
What's the difference in telephone coaching and face-to-face coaching? Really, no difference at all. If you are local to the Charlotte area (or driving distance to Charlotte, North Carolina) you can see one of our counselors in person. If you decide to make an evening or weekend appointment, your session will be by phone.
Do you have any locations on the north side of Charlotte? At this time, we are only located in the Southpark, south Charlotte area. As we grow, we will add locations on other sides of town. Where are you located? 6135 Park South Drive, Suite 510 Charlotte, NC 28210 704-541-1225 If we didn't answer your question, email The Blended and Step Family Resource Center and we will answer your question. |
